Installing new Leven Gearknob ???
Discussion
Finally this morning my new gearknob from Leven arrived, great piece of kit, looks the bollocks. Only one small problem, how do you disassemble the old gearknob. It's the round one, with a small allen key bolt in the front. I took out the small bolt in the front of the gearknob. According to Leven you can then unscrew the gearknob. After about 100 turns, firmly holding the gearstick, saddly nothing happens. I can't find any hidden screws, bolts, anything that would hold the knob in place. I can however feel that the cable inside the gearstick stays in place when you turn the knob. HELP... what am i doing wrong here.
Oh yes, it's a Griffith 4.3 with Rover gearbox.
Cheers Fred

Didn't know they did gear knobs. Must be a new item. If you don't mind me asking, how much was it? Leven Tech don't quote a price on their website. I've been looking for a replacement for a while now, as a previous owner must have been into "bling" (yoof for tom I fink) and scratched the current knob to bits (ouch).
Having talked to Fred at length and looked at photographs of the gear lever it would appear that his gearbox and or linkage is non-standard. (The car is actually a very 'interesting' spec '93, German market, LHD, 4.3BV, hence the cable)
Our new gearknob is a straght replacement for the original and screws on. No dismantling of the car or technicial knowlege required. Available in a range of finishes and fits all Rover/T5 gearboxes, Chimaera through to T350C. Full details on the web site or give us a call.

I also own a 4.3 Griffith and I have the same gearknob and I also have the problem that I don't know how to remove the Gearknob. Does anyone know how to remove it? The cable is to release the block for the reversegear and is atatch to the gearknob and if you whant to put the car in reverse, you have to lift the gearknob.
Yesterday I dicovered that the centerpiece can be removed. In this centerpiece is a smal hole which I drilled up. I than put in a M4 bolt and puled the centrepiece out. Then I was able to remove the cable. Unfortunately I stil can not remove the knob because there is a splint and now I am thrying to find out how to remove it.
It wasn't a splint but a very small bolt. It can be screwed out with a inbustool.

Just fitted one to my Chim' following its purchase at Backhome. Found that one of my leather gloves for the bike gave the best grip to remove the original item.
Having had my first drive in the car with it last night, I have to say it really is nice to use, just as predicted by the folks at Leven. I have to say I wasn't 100% convinced it would make that much difference when I bought it, but true to their word, the flats on the side of it really do make changes easier. Top marks!!
