....and most of it seems to have dropped into the door assembly.

Admittedly the garage in darkness not the best place to attempt a re-assemble, but I couldn't "see" any screws to get the door panel off with.

Steve are there details in the bible (Vsn 1) ?

thanks

It is covered in version 1 but was extensively updated in version 2. The bolts are hidden which means removing the speaker and sending a small kid into the door to undo them.

Depends what year your car is.

Mine is a 1999 car and to get the door card it goes like this:

Remove speaker.

Reach in and find 4 hidden (11mm?) nuts with big washers. One is in front of the speaker hole, one a little way behind, and the third quite a long way behind - you have to get quite a bit of your arm in to undo it. Tip - wear long sleeves to reduce fibre glass cuts/rash. The nuts are ususally finger tight, use a socket to help get hold of them. The fourth nut is up above the speaker hole, quite near the top and is a bitch to get at. A very small 11mm spanner did it for me. I never managed to get it back on though.

Remove the reflector at the back of the door and the screw under it.

The door card outer will now prise off the card and unhook off the top of the door. You need to unplug the wiring connector before pulling the outer away too far.

The inner card is held on with 6 stainless screws along the top.

This is very different to what is in the bible - which I think says there is one hidden nut.
