Drivers Door handle

Has anyone had this problem. The car was iced up this morning so i was going to give it a bit of a pre journey warm up, getting in was ok but getting out was the problem as the drivers side release handle was locked solid. I had to drop window to push down outside button - quite a feat with your left hand (and swearing under your breath). I tried all sorts of things to free it ie the inside door lock button, getting in and out, re-locking the car, but was unwilling to give the handle a real pull as i could see it coming off in my hand (no jokes please).
I do hope i've not got to go through the heater panel to release this. Also the passenger side's ok.

Sounds like you need to lift the flap behind the door and (as Uncle Ernie would say ) have a fiddle all about.

Guess it may well be damp around the cable and icing up?
