What does this part do? Or rather what DID it do before it melted on the exhaust manifold?

I've scratched my head but can't think (unless it's the ABS module or the traction control unit!) what it is doing. The car is running OK (apart from the fact that I managed to flood the engine and hence why I peered under the bonnet in the first place - doh!)

RH side of engine block, just behind the drive belt, sitting (literally) on the manifold

Bodged, somehow.

There's a thread in website feedback about it not working the first time round.

Was it the emergency boot release explosive bolt firing circuit connector

H

PS I have a few spare plugs/connectors in the engine bay, but I put that down on the S as being there for the V6 varients. Why a griff/chim should have spare plugs/connectors in what is a bespoke loom is beyond me. The assumption being that if every thing still works it wasn't needed

Hey presto pictures....

Hi Beano500 hope you and your good Lady are well?

As far as your "fingy" is concerned "NOT A CLUE" Mate, only had my car 4 months now and haven't ventured that far into the engine bay yet.

Big Al.

Edited to say "Seems to be working now! 23:05"

Just had another thought can you see if the lambda sensors are connected as the wiring for the OS one runs under the alternator on mine at about that point and connects to a connector that looks just like that

H

Not an original thought I know, but a thought non the less.......

Hi again Beano500,
Just had a look at a couple of pictures of my engine.
I think I’ve found it! It looks like a diagnostics connector. I'm trying to attach some pictures, just trying to remember how?

WATCH THIS SPACE!

Did it!

Yeah I've got one of those - without the goo around it though. It sits there doing no harm.

Phew, thanks guys ! And such coherent thinking on a Friday night!

Glad to hear it's not just me, Ed.

The lambda idea was inspired too - but they're all in one piece and we're "cooking on gas" in that department.

Big Al - reckon it is the same, just on a longer leash than yours. I just get a bit nervous when I find a connector not connected to something ! Maybe I won't play with it 'til I find out what it's supposed to do - let Doctor Dave have a diagnosis just in case it is the spare emergency exploding panic mode power assisted boot release override module.

Weird though - you set up to wire a car together, as you point out H, and you wouldn't expect any dead ends. The only option I haven't got is A/C I think

Oh and the pics - that's got me beat too. If I hit "quote" and then "preview" they're there - they certainly were there on first post.

I reckon someone's been kucking up my feyboard or something Anyway we won't tamper in case Ted needs to tweak a valve or reseal a spiggot or two...

Have you got any of these 'innocents' left Ed? I thought it was your policy to remove them with scissors!

Cheers Nick, Thank you, you’re a Gentleman and a Scholar!
At the point in time when the photo was taken it was in Fernies showroom, about an hour before I brought it.
So it's not really down to me, YET!
Just wait till the weather warms up!
Think the cats could do with a shine, I'll have a talk to bb he's look good in the nanna.

By the way Ron,
The plug as I found out from Fernies this morning is for the ABS on the original Rover spec. There are in fact two, couldn't locate or see the other one this morning but its around the same area.
So it's redundant on Tiv's.

All the best Guys, hope to see you soon, save driving and keep “em” shiny side up.

Big Al.
