Hi there,

I need to upgrade the whole supension stuff of my Griffith 430. I heared a lot of different dampers and stuff. I will go for the sports package from TVR (Bilstein dampers, stronger anti roll bars) But also I have to have new bushes all around. I am not sure if I should go for the original ones or for SuperFlex (Polyurethane) bushes. Any advice on this topic ??

re bushes - expect differing answers - seems to be a matter of taste...

I had poly ones fitted a while back, as suggested (& fitted) by a well respected independent. Might get original ones next time, on advice from another well trusted independent!

Poly bushes are fine as long as you go for the super-hard / almost solid version (red colour in the ones i use).. anything else isn't as good at location as the std TVR bush - the squidgy ones you can bend double in your hand .. imagine cornering forces going through them and you can see their limitations. the std TVR bush has almost no rubber bushing in it and is therefore very good locator .. only trouble with them is they fall apart as the rubber tears from the metal casing, and they get damaged by the heat from the exhaust manifolds. poly bushes are virtually fit-and-forget itmes, but fit the right ones ...

Why not go for Nitrons with rose joints, ie no bushes at all!!!! Far better ride all round

There'll still be bushes in the wishbones tho!
I've got poly bushes on my Griff & i'm v. happy with them. Can't offer a comparison to standard tho cos the original ones were cattle trucked.

How much does it cost to get new bushes? Is there a big handling difference for the poly ones?

there's no handling benefit with poly bushes over the std tvr bushes IN GOOD CONDITION. however the tvr ones deteriorate quickly so that's when the poly ones start to make sense.

Hi joospeed,

thanks for your comments on the above topic. Where have you got your super hard bushes. What is the descrption and who can deliver that stuff. I don´t know if Superflex has different types.
Any hint would be very helpfull.

Thank you very much

Best regards

Hi there Jochen

Not sure if they do them for TVR's but i have just rebushed a classic MG with Superflex bushes

www.racecar.co.uk/superflex/m-p.html

The ones i used were "classic" blue, but one assumes you'd go towards the "race red" end of the scale.

Anyway thought i'd mention superflex as the quality of these bushes far outweighs everything i checked from other sources and as a company i would highly recommend them again. The guy really knows his stuff too.

Classy little bits like stainless steel cores, different shore ratings for different bushes in certain areas of the suspension etc etc...

Anyway i know they do Marcos, so prob do TVR. The ones fo rthe MG are only about 10% stiffer than rubber, but as mentioned earlier, the best bit about them is that they do not decay as quickly as standard rubber and therefore keep your suspension in better nick, for longer.
