Yes, this old chestnut - but this time stuck on thus keeping the fans always on.

Anyone know what part I need to get? Does it have to be sourced from a dealer or can I just get XYZ from Halfords? I realise it has to have the correct switching characteristics (i.e. on 92/off 88 or lower).

Also is replacing it simply unscrew old, new one in and ensure not too much coolant pees out?

Thanks

Dave

I have just done this, bought all parts from leven technology, kit contains water wetter (keeps coolant cooler), otter switch (74 deg) and new thermostat. Cost just under 40.00 for everything. You can just buy otter though also (not the mammal!!) Dispatched and recieved within two days of order...Would suggest stick to a TVR/specialist part, as i believe these are meant to come on earlier than stock items..

I replaced my otter switch recently , just a un-screw and screw the new one back in , use some plumbers PTFE tape on the threads of the new one .If your quick you won't loose much water !
I purchased my switch from team-proactive I think it was about £8.50

Cheers

With regards to this kit from Leven, can I pester you for more details? Like the thermostat spec? And the otter switch cut out temp – I assume 74 is the cut in. (do the fans ever cut out with such a low rating?)

Have you fitted the kit yet and how does it perform?

Sorry, all these questions and a request for an impromptu kit review!
TIA!

I just spoke to Leven and the otter switch they supply comes on at 92 and off at 88 - which I thought was the standard part. They were happy to split the pack and just sell the otter but I got the full cooling kit (plus some aluminium toys ). Fitting the new thermostat seems a bit over complicated as they suggest slackening off the belt and taking out the alternator.

Ring them on 01268 281611 - they were very helpful.

Personally i use an adjustable stat that just sits on the rad hose outlet. Perfect, just adjust to you requirements.

My mistake...Thermostat is 74 deg (opening) but have also noted fans do come on at 75 degree (indicated Temp.) although temp still rises but seems to hover about 80-85 deg (Which is 5 deg, cooler than before), car seems a lot cooler now, as also fixed a fan problem recently, but thats a whole other story...But as a kit, worth the money in my book...Plus nicely packaged as always from LEVEN...

I am putting together a list of ' where else to get your parts'
Information like the Halfords or after market manufactureres name and part number for parts like the 'otter switch ' would be invaluable to all owners in the years to come.

In Halfords I suspect they would have a parts catalogue for the product they stock that is not TVR factory tied. Try it.
