What's the noise?
Discussion
hi
why did it have the rockers etc changed. this would suggest that the engine was tappy due to wear. who did it?
this work would also hide a cam going off.
the new lifters would be set to the worn cam, making it quieter, but as the cam continues to wear (2000m) out of the lifters range, the noise would increase.
this would follow the symptom of warm noise. cold oil is stiff giving a high pressure' closing the tappet cleanly. as the pressure decreases as the oil warms, the tappets will settle off.
the rattle will be lost in high rev (3000rpm) engine noise anyway.
this is not good as the sale would be down the road ...no come back!
I'd take it to a GOOD independant specialist and have it checked out thouroghly!!
don't mean to worry ya...hope its cheap to fix - or ok.

I had a similar problem, although it was mainly at idle. I had the lifters + camshaft replaced due to wear resulting in what feels like 30% more power.
One thing that has changed is that its much harder to drive at low speed in 2nd...before, due to the wear, I never had to use 1st gear.
It was the 1st TVR I had driven, bit stupid I know but due to getting a trade price for it I expected a certain amount of cost in the 1st year.

Hmm? Do you mean you got more power but less torque? Or wasn't it as simple as that?
it resulted in..
-more instant pick up, I had to re learn how to potter along in traffic!
-most noticable was the exhaust note, I thought it sounded great, as hadnt heard many V8's up close. But a friend got a Pilgrim Cobra with a 4.3 Rover V8 in it & it sounded much better, more poppy etc. I wasnt convinced that it was just down to no cats so had it looked at. It sounds like a different car now...it was Team Proactive that came up with the 30% so it was probably to make up for the bill!
