Can''t seem to get any 5W/50 Mobil 1 synthetic oil for my Griff, It has at present Valvoline 5W/50 synthetic oil which was put in by TVR dealer, Newtown Motors, South Wales after I bottomed the Griff out and ripped the sump plug out. I phoned my local dealer Chris Neal and they use 0W/40 Mobil 1. I only need it topping up before I take the Griff to the South of France and Chris Neal said that it would be ok to top it up with 0W/40. Any advice appreciated.

louise, as long as you use a synthetic you will be OK,there are plenty of threads here about oil and you'll find that I consider Mobil 1 to be too thin.....sump plug, ouch

Agree with Apache on the Mobil 1 issue, I have switched to Mobil 1 Motor Sport with good results, heavier grade, more like the original Mobil 1 ,oil consumption is now reasonable again. Sorry to hear about that sump plug, sounds expensive.

£4.90 for a new sump plug plus oil, no damage to sump, lucky for me pulled over in time, still had a couple of litres in it.

Just a small point at the very minimum it would partially strip the thread in the sump so even if just a precaution the thread should be re cut and helicoiled but alas no mention !!! Just incase the rest of you think I'm being over harsh.

Why would she try it on? I think I'm beginning to fancy her! Hey, maybe she's Louise Goodman!

Id like to try it on with her. She obviously has an interest in real cars. It could be a match made in heaven. Like Posh and Becks. Saturn and Louise, beautiful.

Is the sump on a Griff quite exposed and is the sump plug on the bottom or to the side of the basin of the sump Why don't you lot ask a quetion too Louise about a Griff that only a Griff driver would be able to answer but there would be no guarantee that she didn't get help so she should send Ted a pic of here car to put it into here profile Mel, I think you should ask the questions

The sump plug is on the passenger side of the sump, the bottom of the plug is very close to the bottom of the sump. I've known them to unscrew themselves when the sump hits the ground - the plug may not have been ripped out. Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
