Can anyone advice me on wich shocks to buy for my Griffith (1993 4.3). And maybe the type or the partnumbers, i may have to get them from the UK direct. Over here you can't buy them i think.

I have AVO's on mine and they are better than standard.
Nitrons are the better shock as they dont need as much nose force to get them moving, the AVO's work better on the heavier cars like the Cerbera etc.

Obviously AVO' are cheaper if you have a budget.

How much did the change to non std shocks affect your insurance premium?

I'm heading for a brake/suspension upgrade this spring and was wondering.

Upgraded Disks, shocks, pre cat removal added about £100 more than normal, that was with Sunninhill.

I have read that other people have had little or no increase at all.

I would say the classic and specialist TVR insurers are the best to be with.

Other may have different stories.

I had AVOs on about 2 years ago. I would recommend them as budget replacements - set them soft/med they're OK, anything firmer & the 500 feels baffled by the roads. Batty tells me he has affordable Spax that are better choice, but havent experienced them yet. Will post when more news( soonish I think)

Having tried various AVOs, Spax and Nitrons, there is absolutely no contest. Spax were OK when they worked, but horribly unreliable. The AVOs were just awfull, very harsh. The Nitrons are in a different league, and when you have driven the car with them fitted you will realize the extra money is well spent.

hi Fred,

don't bother, go for the fully adjustable Koni's, especially developed for the Griff/Chim, available at Nimag. Not cheap, but definitely brilliant!

Anyone tried Ohlins? Supposed to be even better than Nitrons if cost is no object.

I've driven a (race) Tuscan with them fitted and the suspension was great, quite firm but soaked up bumps and kerbs. Haven't tried the same car with any other dampers though. I seem to remember the TVR Center had a demonstrator set up with Ohlins and all the reports were very positive.

Nitron are going to have a new budget damper out soon .. should offer a real alternative to the AVO / GAZ route cost concious owners go for at the moment. Watch this space ...
The current NTR Nitron offers the best value for money you can get in a damper at the moment as far as I am concerned, and I've fitted alot of the competition but always come back to nitron in the end.
Hope that helps.

just had nitron gas, rose jointed with polys...
felt great at a wet and VERY slippery rockingham this weekend. eminently setable by an easy knurled twist nut. semi for the ride up, then two, no three harder for a drying track! excellent

also dropped 20mm and corner weighted at the same time by Peninsula.

i'd recommend them so far, but i hav'nt been able to give them a GOOD spank yet (due to cold / wet track)

Hope this helps

Can any one tell us how much the Nitrons are likely to cost - looking to have a set fitted.
Also, anybody know which manufacturer the factory use for the "Red Rose" option on Griff/Chim ? (heard they cost around £2000 !).

There are several models with very different prices. Budget around a grand for a set, but if you want tripple adjustable for competition use that will be quite a bit more. Check out the Nitron web site for details.

the basic single adjustable NTR is 850 plus vat, available at a local tvr specialist near you .. I'd recommend peninsula seeing as they stumped up for the development of the original ntx damper for the griff / chim so it's only fair they should benefit from a griff owner wanting to upgrade, I did the inital work on the latest NTR for the Tuscan / Cerbera .. in fact i fitted the very first set of the latest NTR dampers for development.
