passenger side fan not working, probably a fuse. far too dark now to pee about but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

driver side fan fine, is it just a fuse?

About 7 or eight different fuse layouts so that fans may or may not be seperately fused. Could also be a duff connection or fan. TRy swapping the connectors over.

Most of the older cars had a single 40A fuse for both fans. So if you've standard wiring, it can't be the fuse or both fans would be off.

However some cars had a fan mod where each fan was wired to a different fuse to reduce the load on the fuse. I'm not sure if this was a standard mod in the later cars - maybe someone can advise.

With the blade fuses what happens as they get on a bit is that load passes through them and the bridge heats up. Over time the bridge warps a little and in the end sags and breaks. Griff fan fuses are just about the only emergency accessory I carry with me for just this reason.

I think I'd start with the fuse. But when looking at the fuse box don't assume the layout diagram in your handbook is necessarily correct, You might have to dig about to find the right fuse.

Good luck

can you spin both fans by hand, just to ensure the fan itself hasn't seized

I have a later Griff (1999) so each fan has its' own fuse. That's all it was.

For once the manual actually beared some resemblance to what was there!

One of the fans seized on my 4.3 Griff. I think it was caused by water running down the bonnet and collecting in the fan motor (especially if the car isn't used that often. I always make a point of spinning the fans now if the car's been parked in the rain, or if I've washed it. I got a replacement fan for about £57 delivered, and I fitted it myself. It wasn't too traumatic.

Dan.
