Hi Guys, my original post was at www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=25757&f=13&h=0 , johno was asking on general gassing.
The car came like that, the CD player is bolted to a plate which is then velcro'd to the carpet Yes I wondered is it would interfer with roof, but doesn't appear to when putting the panel in, which is tight! Also extra speakers have been added to the bulkhead.

I tried to fit mine in the boot but wherever I wanted to put it, there was an obstacle preventing me i.e CD cable not long enough, not enough room for the changer etc. The main problem was fitting the roof in without constantly hitting the changer, which invariably will loosen the connections and you'll forever be going into the boot to reconnect.
I opted for fitting it behind the drivers seat. Clearly - being only 5'10 means I dont have to push it back all the way, and being the only driver I dont have to worry about moving the seat back and forth. No problems so far, unless Clarkson fancies a drive!

Here's what it looks like as fitted by TVR, the black flap of rubber is, according to the guys at the factory, to prevent rain from dripping into the changer should I open the boot in the wet. The advantage of having the CD changer mounted there as opposed to on the boot floor is, I guess, that I can remove the CD cassette without first having to remove the roof panel. Cheers Rich...
thanks for all the replys folks,i appreciate the help, but im still stuck due to the following.it wont fit above tank as cassete for cds goes in length section (unlike tvrs instalation)so cant get access(lip of boot rim is then in the way).unit is chunky so wont go behind seats-im tall and need legroom.id like to access disks without taking hood out of boot,so im still looking behind no.plate area.id like to mount to the angled recess behind no.plate, and i have some brackets that allow unit to tilt back to vertical whilst mounted at an angle, but will the recess take the weight without causing stress cracks on the outside?! anybody done this?

I'm sure you know your own car/CD player best, but I realise that with the flap over my unit you can't actually see where the CD's go in Well they load in vertically in the top edge, and the cassette does just clear the boot lip when it pops up. Rich...

Mike
Mine was fitted by the factory in the place you mention. Basically there is a carpetted board with velcro on one end and a bolt with goes through the boot panel and emerges in the number plate recess. The changer is mounted to the board.
As you look into the boot, the top of the changer is level with the top of the boot lip, and the whole lot is just to the left side of the boot.
I'll try and remember to take a photo for you.
Regards
Andy
Mine is in a similiar place to RichB's but is screwed to the bit where the speakers are and near to the top so the hood goes under it(just) when u put it in there.
It Sticks out horizontal so the cartrige door opens facing the rear of the car.
Would take a photo but the Banana is having a little work done on it.

Mike,
I got your e-mail, I will try to post a better picture tomorrow, showing the unit with the cassette sticking out as if loading, I'll also put the roof in the boot to give you some idea of the clearence (bit wet outside today). But yes I've only got a 6 pack not a huge 10 jobbie! Cheers Rich...
p.s. I think the roof has to go in curved edge down with the carbon facing to the rear i.e. facing you as you put it in the boot.

So have I Rich.
Mike said "thanks for reply and piccies for cd changer mounting, they're very helpful. Looks very much like i'll be doing it your way, as no other way seems possible with roof in boot access due to size of unit(noticed your unit looks large also). Sorry to be late aknowleging your help, but ive been distracted by work and illness!(nowt serious)thanks once more for all your help"
So now I feel bad for being grumpy earlier!
Yep -see you at RG on Saturday. Good of them to host a PH meeting!!
