volts??again part2
Discussion
Hmm.. Sounds high to me. I thought most batteries charged at 13.8 to 14.4 volts.
The diode pack on my alternator went and mine went to the top of the meter (16v from memory), this can cook a battery I believe. Sorted out alternator and voltage returned to normal (13v) and a couple of weeks later my battery packed up...

A new alternator cost me about £60 from my local auto electrician (a fairly standard type he says).
Vodkakid - My red bit starts at 14V. if yours does too and you needle is going no further than this I would say you are not overcharging your battery.
My Volt gauge on a normal run stays constant, only dropping when the cooling fans or hot air blower are on when it usually drops by a volt. If your volt gauge is rising an falling with the revs, i would agree with Apache and suspect that the alternator would need replacing.
If you can find a local auto electrician, I would go to him in preference to Halfords or a motor factor. He could give you better advice and a better deal (as mine did)
