Electrical buzz on start-up
Discussion
Since I've had the Griff (about a month), there seems to be an electrical buzzing type noise coming from the engine bay when I turn the ignition on. The car has always started and run fine (until the battery died). Is this just the starter motor, and is it anything to worry about?
Hope everyone will be taking their beasts out for a run this week-end....

Are you sure its not the petrol pump Priming, when you turn ignition on there is a short Buzz of 2 or 3 secs.
But that would be from the rear.
If it is coming from the engine bay i ,m not sure as i had this on my S and it never caused any problem and only happened on very long trips.

Edited to add this fine piece of info from Mr Green V8S which should help.
"When you turn the ignition OFF the idle control stepper motor winds out which causes a buzzing noise at the back of the engine bay for about a second, this is normal and completely different to the noise from the fuel pump (at the rear of the car) when you turn the ignition "

Not the fuel pump priming is it i.e. turn the key so all lights are on, it then buzzes before you turn the key further to crank it over .
Ocasionally I can hear, what I take to be, the stepper motor buzzing confused: but thats in the dead of night, in the garge with zero background noise i.e. I don't hear it often and normally when switching off not on.

Nope, definitely not the fuel pump as that is definitely from behind (ooh err). This other noise is more of a loudish electrical buzz from the bonnet area - it definitely sounds dodgy! But like I say, the car starts and runs fine, so I'm tempted to leave it!

Ahhh Monsieur Banana, it could well be the stepper motor as you described. This seems to tie in with the symptoms now that you mention it. It could well make the noise when the ignition goes off rather than on - I just forgot! Wouldn't make a good murder witness would I...?
Anyway, why aren't you out on the beers?
Thanks everyone!
