Mystery part, any ideas ?
Discussion
Can anyone explain to me what this part does. It's in the tube from the airfilter to the engine. I have a photo on my website, please have a look and help me solve the riddle.

Looks wired and I don't recall seeing like that before. Is the duct just going past the metal thing, or are they connected in some way? I can't see what there could be that would need to be added there, especially since the metal thing doesn;t have any other obvious connections. The only possibility is that the carbon cannister is somewhere in that area on the inside of the wing, is it connected to that somehow?
I thought that but surly the plenum chamber will be same on a LHD and a RHD car, so why would the air duct go to the RH side of the car?
jon h said: I see it is a 4.3. Mine is also a 4.3, but the pipe from the air filter runs round the left side of the car, not the right as this pic suggests. Perhaps it is perculiar to left hand drive variants? No idea what it does though! Jon
p.s. What would you call a deer with no eyes and no legs? answer:- "still no idea" Rich...
the plenum chamber is reversed on a LHD car, so it would run down the other wing.
A griffith bodyshell is actually a different shape for left vs RHD, presumably for pedals etc.
Is ti a homemade attempt at a supercharger, mad eout of an old hair drier?
