Follwing a thread I started sometime ago, just to say I have now fitted a small number plate, 10" x 2.5". It looks so much better and certainly helps keep engine temp down. Highly recommended, although Jonny Law probably wont think that when I get busted.

I've just done the same, I'll let you know what Old Bill says. I have a feeling I'll be talking to him soon!

Just a thought, but what about applying a number plate sticker just like the old E types? I'm not even sure if there is room below the badge on the bonnet, but if there were it certainly would open up the airflow through the radiator. Don't know what the fuzz would think of that either.

I've seen one with the plate done using stickers on the bonnet. It looked awful. Sorry, even airflow isn't worth butchering the car that way!

Couldn't agree more. I would also hate to think of the damage to the paint work underneath the sticker.

I bought a small plate and stuck to the top of the grille aperture (older 1995 Chimaera) which has resulted in a 10 degree drop in temperatures at motorways speeds. Looks OK too! -Manek-

I was under the impression that the stick on number plates were also illegal as they are not vertical.

Had a stick on one on an old Caterham I used to have and the only plod bollocking I ever got was when driving into the City "Ring of Steel" he had the hump because their forward facing cameras couldn't read the plate and I might be a terrorist !!!! Where the hell you put a bomb in Caterham failed me and I didn't have the neck to ask!

SwanJack,if you're referring to my post, mine is vertical: it's just stuck (using double-sided carpet tape) rather than bolted to the grille surround at the top of the aperture. -Manek- Edited by manek on Thursday 23 August 14:58

I wasn't referring to a stuck on plate, but to stick on number plates i.e. plastic digits that stick onto a car's bonnet. Actually Steve Heath's book confirms that this set up is 'technically illegal'. I'm sure yours is perfectly straight!! Edited by SwanJack on Thursday 23 August 19:35
