Grrrrrrrrrrr Battery........................ :(
Discussion
Use an optimate to keep the battery up to charge when the cars in the garage.
went out the other day to take the beast for a spin and yep.... dead battery.... no charge whatsoever....
Just been on the phone and got a new one ordered for Mon.. as I think some of the cells have gone.
Any ideas apart from an old battry that could cause this?

I had similar problem and could not get the battery to take a charge from my battery charger, standard £35 thing from Halford.
As the battery was only 6 months old called the garage and they took it out and it charged for them no problems.
I assume garages have much stronger chargers, so may be worth taking into a local garage and asking them to check it and see it it will take a charge. Could save most of the price of a new battery.

not sure if optimate is a trickle charger,or a conditioner.
constantly feeding a battery with a fixed current will speed up the b*ggering process if your cells are weakening.
a conditioner (accumate) will monitor battery condition and (if possible) change the charging process to recondition the battery. It can "repair" a non-terminally shagged battery in around 3-days.
Importantly...if you have a fully charged battery it will only send a nominal current to run alarm/clock etc switching up and down as required.
Peninsula do them...plug into ciggy lighter. get one in the post, plug in for 3 days and if the light goes green its now ok...no agro. if it doesn't buy a new battery and your new conditioner will keep it perfect forever!
also bosch do high high quality battery listed for the griff, never bought one but bosch stuff is v-good and guaranteed for ages...expensive tho (£80-00ish!)
happy new year!

Might be too obvious but is often overlooked, yes the optimate is a conditioner but it's very easy to plug it into the ciggy lighter and go away thinking all is dandy only to find out that when the ignition is off the ciggy lighter is dead and therefore the optimate has been sat there doing FA for six months. I'm not being sarcastic and sorry if you realised this.

On most Griffs it is live all the time. But check and also make sure that the polarity has not been reversed.... Has happened.
On some of the units, there is a visible LED to check that the optimate or whatever is doing what it should.

Cheers all ...
Yep its an Optimate wired directly to the battery with a connection in my boot. Polarity is ok from the lights on the unit.
Charged the car for 3 days and just got it started this am, then off to SHG.
They fitted a new heavy duty battery. Found the old one was from Halfords and only a 510 not 620/630, it was also dead. They also had to reset the bolts holding it down as these were left off before and the battery could move around.
The bad news was, they also noticed my clutch was maxing a scraping noise on engaging the pedal. They reckon the fulcrum part of the clutch is on the way out....
