productive afternoon but front brake disk concern
Discussion
finally got the 500 up on stands.. front wheels off.. wire brush out etc etc. All going well - not too much wayoxl in my hair yet. Noticed a little surface corrosion on the edges of the front discs, so took out my nice new Dremel and set to it. As I turned the disc by hand, there was a surprisingly strong dragging sound. Put a wheel back on & it's still there. So what should I squirt on where?

You should leave the surface corrosion as it is very easy to screw up the disc trying to remove it. The brake pads will clean up any corrosion where it is important.
the lat thing to do is use a dremel as this can put the disc out of balance very quickly.
The sound is probably the brake pads still gripping the disc due to friction. Or a knackered wheel bearing in which case squirting anything anywhere is too late....

I rust-removed only on the outer edge of the disk - not the disk surface where pads grip. There was a fair little build up of crap there (which would come off with my fingernail but dremel quicker).
Meantime, should the pads cause resistance when car in this state?
And happy xmas! Time to stay up all night drinking sherry & playing PS2

Probably nothing to worry about, the pads normally rub lightly against the rotor. In fact it's when they don't (the dreaded pad knock-back) that you need to start worrying!

Hmm. Me too. Only I haven't even started the waxoyling yet! Spent from 10am to 7pm in the garage - firstly cleaning off as much of the chassis as I can reach, preparing it for touching up with Hammerite, stoneguard on the vulnerable bits and finally Waxoyl. Unfortunately I only got as far as stage 1! I managed to lie in several puddles of white spirit in the process - nice!
I got distracted with the brake hoses - one of the rears was a pig as the original hose had seized on the chassis mounting point. Took me an age to remove it. Still - all installed with fresh AP600 fluid and all bled.
Tomorrow is painting day...
When you've finished.. I'll give you a tenner to come and do mine!!
Have bought trolley jack/axle stands/hammerite/waxoyl.
Bit nervous about getting it onto the axle stands though.
Memorable christmas moment this year, peugeout stuck in the mud in a field at 3:00 am following my wife's office xmas party with 3 women dressed as belly dancers (An arabian nights theme)
happy new year to be, all

I reckon it took about three times as long as I though it would. In the end I cheated & bought a tin of spray-on Waxoyl (or the equivalent at least) for the bits I'd missed when using the proper stuff. No too many but a few - there are so many bits to treat!!
Noticed that although it's garaged, everythings a bit damp in there as the weathers been so crap - so must do the back of the car soon.
