An newly insured with Sunninghill - I told them I had the standard alarm for my year Griff (96). The cover note has come through saying I've got the meta alarm which I believe to be wrong. I think it's the Foxguard (according to previous owner). Should I just keep quiet (as Foxguard are no longer in business and it is impossible to get a certificate proving the alarm works etc because of this), or tell them? If so, does anyone know the model that was fitted. Is it the F1-11?

Hope someone can help.....

Marc mines a 96 and has the Foxguard which like david says the siren is on the inside right of the engine bay (normally).

Go to a reputable car alarm place and get them to inspect the installation. For about £10-20 pounds they will issue a certificate which you send to Insurance company and that's that.

I think it is an F1-11T

Yeah, worth being careful here. My '95 Griff had a foxguard. NorwichUnion, who used to do great deals on TVR's, were happy to accept it as factory fit but come renewal, noone else would stating that the foxguard was no longer acceptable CAT1 equipment. Had to get a new alarm fitted (which still worked out cheaper than my next lowest quote!)

Yeah this is what I've been finding - no reputable alarm specialist will issue the certificate as Foxguard no longer exist. Think I might just claim ignorance with Sunninghill (as I am pretty ignorant - don't need a certificate for that!). Thanks again people!

PS Did a 200 mile blat down to Devon today - gorgeous! Sun out, roof off - yipppeeeeeee!!

I'd be careful, Prince Charming. Pleading ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of insurers. It is up to you to make sure that there is no way they can get out of paying, if something dreadful happens to your TVR. I have read other threads that if it's written off, they send very clever chappies round to inspect the wreckage. If there's anything not right they will use it to get out of paying. And that will include third party liabilities. If it's nicked, however, there's no wreckage to inspect. Sorry to bring bad news, but I'd let them know.

I am insured with sunninghill too and they have been very helpful and knowledgable when it comes to TVRs.

PS they won't increase your premium for little upgrades (Like brakes and Mark Adams chip)
