Hi, does anyone know if there are any differences between the two cars brakes and how do early cars brakes differ from newer versions? I''ve been offered some Chim rear disks and calipers for my early Griff as my discs are the single type and the Chim has the vented sort, although they will fit ok my Griff has a large valve on the brake system at the rear before the T valve and I wondered if Chims have the same, any help would be apreciated....l

There are about 10 different brake disc combinations fitted to the GRiffs and Chimaeras. Details are in the Griff/Chimaera bible. Don't even think about fitting bigger rear discs/callipers unless you are going to upgrade the fronts. If you do the brake balance will transfer even more to the rear and the car will lock up the rear wheels in prefernce to the fronts. A definite no-no as this will spit you into the scenary very very quickly. If you want to improve the brakes, upghrade the fronts first. And no I would not recommend using the Chimaera rears on the fronts. Regards Steve www.tvrbook.co.uk

Thanks shpub, im not doing anything as silly as putting fronts on rears etc. I have a full set( front & rear) of Chimaera disks and calipers that I am thinking of upgrading my Griff ones with, my quiery is, will the original brake balancer on the Griffith be ok to use on the new brakes or do i need to change anything? My brake balancer bolts to a plate welded to the chassis at the rear and I need to know about the balancer to solve the plate dilema..

I would just do the fronts and leave the rears, Bigger callipers require more fluid and without changing the master cylinder you may find that the pedal travel is unacceptable with both. A lot is down to feel, the pad mixture and so on. If you do this flush out the system and use Dot 5.1 which is far better at resisting heat. Regards Steve www.tvrbooks.co.uk
