Replacing clutches and oil seals
Discussion
At the last service (60,000 mile) of my Griff 500 I had the full clutch replaced and at the same time was told I needed a new rear crank seal and gearbox input shaft seal. The parts price quoted sounded fair but on getting the invoice it's the time charged for the work that seems astronomic - over 40 hours for this and a few other pretty trivial jobs all of which would take less than half a day in total. I'm not naming names and know TVRs aren't meant to be cheap, but this seems extreme - or is there something I'm missing?
Sounds a bit steep to me.40 hours is a weeks work.
I had a clutch changed recently and oil seel and some work on the exhaust and paid £300 in labour which i imagine is less than 10 hours work as they only had it for 1 day.
I think most garages charge between £30-£45per hour( i think) so i can only say i am glad i didnt have to pay your bill

The Sunday Times "Driving Section" has a piece each week called "Rich Repairs". The section features labour charges reported by readers and the garage who made the charges. This week it is a MB garage charging £70/hour + VAT. I recall having seen one at £85.00/hour. Strangely, as a part of Ford, I think I read that Volvo have the highest labour charges...yes, even more than the prancing pony charges!
