Well it is a very sad day in the D household, after 6 years and lots of smiles the Griff has gone.

I hope Marc (Prince Charming) will enjoy it as much as I have.

Sob....oh well better take the Cerbera for another thrashing

Enjoy your Griffs you Griff people, they really are fantastic cars

Cheers

D. (ex Griff owner)

Hi David,

I think I have seen your Griff around Newport...indeed you may have seen mine, an Antigua Blue 500.

I don't know if you are a member of the TVRCC, if you are, I would love to have a chat to you at the January Cambridgeshire meeting about a number of Griff and Cerbera related issues...and have a beer!

By the way, do you have any experience of Offord, please mail me off-line.

Thanks Toffer

David - I really felt bad taking the Griff away from you this afternoon (even though I had just handed you my life savings!). Hope you're not too upset - it's gone to a good home! The car goes like a dream, and have only just got back (midnight) after leaving yours at 5ish. Tim and I have driven round Leamington Spa and Stratford on Avon, revving the engine a bit and generally making a nuisance of ourselves - had to get it out of my system! It took a while to suss out the immobiliser, the wiper washer tube came unstuck and the cd player doesn't work, but apart from that not a problem!

Mind if I stick one of those pics on my profile? Might have to photoshop in some extra hair though - am I really that bald? Agggh!!!!

And you know the Cerb is just as awesome!

Actually drove back through Bedford last night Ballistic on my way back from getting the car in Cambridge - definitely up for a blast!

On another note - Tesco are asking for proof that the car has a Thatcham 1 alarm - I think mine has the Foxguard system. Do you know how I can get proof of this? Can I just take it to an alarm specialist and get them to do me a certificate?

Cheers dudes!

Alarm proof - I had a similar thing. Got a Tracker fitted and the guy at the alarm specialist gave me a certificate for free, but I think he would have charged about a tenner for it.

Beano - nice one. I'll give that a go, after giving TVR a quick to see if they'll do one for me...

Anyway, off out now for some shopping....

Oh, forgot to say that TVR will do a standard letter - it wasn't sufficient for my Insurer (Direct Line)

Had a bit of a fright this afternoon - it's a bit cold out to say the least. Started the engine with no throttle and it idled away fine for a minute ot two, gently going up and down in revs. Went to reverse off the drive but due to being a newbie didn't give it enough revs - stalled the car! Of course, now when I tried to start it again it didn't want to, so went for a walk around the shops. Came back half an hour later bricking myself - turned the engine and heard a small flicker but no action, so started giving it a bit of throttle in desperation. It worked! Tonnes of steam came out of the exhausts, I kept the revs at 2k for a while and Robert was my mother's brother. Went off for a happy pootle around the lanes of leafy Warwickshire...

So my question - how does everyone else start their cars? (only in a TVR would this get asked!!)

PS David - fixed the cd player - I think the connection to the changer had worked a bit loose. Fine now!

PPS Ballistic - just cos you're jealous!

To Prince my Darling

I normally start mine by turning the key and waiting for the Fuel pump to prime and then start it.
I normally then leave it for a few mins just to warm up(especially inside this time of year).
I then take the lid off and press the lound pedal
I have only ever stalled it once and it started straight away, but i have heard of this happening before and there is a thread on here somewher if u do a search.
If the engine was hot allready it could be the starter motor, David did this do this with you.

Marc

It has done this a couple of time, the best way to start the car is to turn the key with your feet off everything, don't worry about the fuel pump priming it will just start. Then leave it for a minute or so till the revs flatten out at about 1k rpm. Then it is ok, if you have to drive it as soon as you start it then give it a little throttle for a few seconds and it will clear it's throat. Make sense? Thought not

It's just a case of getting to know the car, you'll be fine after you've had it for a few days.

Don't worry!

Cold weather can bring out the worst, and a stalled car can be a bitch to restart. It's due to the ECU thinking things are warm when they may not be. There is no easy solution, but there are counter-measures. Take note of the RPM and once the engine comes off high idle recognise this as being the most likely point for a stall. If you get it over that hurdle things are fine (the ECU "catches up")

Yup, I think when you've managed to stall it once or twice you get to have empathy with it. It's sometimes unnerving when the revs drop when you first touch the throttle.

Best advice is to take deep breaths, stay calm and not go for any sudden movements on first waking - a Griff which doesn't get considerate treatment first thing in the mornings tends to bite back............

.........I often know how that feels

make sure you clean the stepper motor too - that's often the cause of irregular idle and easily prevented

This behaviour from my Griff was exactly why I took the car to Mark Adams - it turned out to be caused by the advance having been turned right down, among other things.
