Griff 500 bhp/torque figures
Discussion
Just been reading SGirl's stuff about "Griff 500 transformed" and noted that most people seem to think that any 500 engine putting out over 300bhp is very good and seemingly quite rare.
I'm going to be buying my first Griff 500 soon and thought that bhp was nearer 320 with torque being around 320lbs/ft? It's even stated on this website as having 340bhp and 350lbs/ft which would be nice!!!
Having not ever been in one (unfortunately) is it a case of power fading after a few years? If this does happen does it affect the torque as well as this has more effect on the day to day performance after all?
I'm a bit lost on this one...
Cheers

If you do a bit of a search on the forums you'll find this has been done to death a few times.
TVR just use slightly smaller horses for measuring (perhaps they are the donkeys off the beach )
So a 5.0 RV8 puts out 340 TVR horses, but only 270 normal sized ones.
Likewise a 4.0 RV8 puts out 240 TVR horses, but only about 200 normal ones...
The actual performance stats are supposed to be reasonably accurate I believe, but I stand to be corrected by anyone who knows better
Editted to say that I opened this topic expecting to read about some insane Griffith with 500 bhp

I'd go along with this, as a 4.0l Chimaera I drove felt like it had a very similar pull to my 200bhp Nissan 200sx.....
Does it weigh roughly the same then , always liked the look of the coupe 200sx

Greary Powell of www.eliseparts.com built a 4 wheel drive turbocharged TVR Griffith with something in the region of 500bhp.
So there is a God and he lives near me
Now wheres my cheque book

I have had a go in a Nissan 200NSX and they are pretty nippy (for a rice rocket) when you get them on boost...but to be honest the only similarity that the one I went in had to a modern TVR was that it leaked water!
Comparable performance...sorry nah! You could take a nap while you waited for the Nissan to catch-up Sounds like pub talk!

i totally agree with ncs, its all in the driving pleasure and they are a lot of fun to drive.
i have been down that route of rolling roads, lots of cash spent on modifying and then some one out there has even more cash and more bhp.
i would only take it on rolling road if it ran ruff. mine does when cold but, so do most performance cars

I had an N reg'd 200sx before my Chimaera which was uprated to 250ish hp. Once on boost it was about as fast as a std 4.0L Chimaera. The Nissan was much harder to handle in the wet and had wads less torque low down though - a very different drive.
