Any Ideas (apart from go to the garage) about this. I started the Griff to pop out and it ran fine for about half of the length of my drive. Then it went bang and stalled. But not like a normal stalling, a rather more lumpy version. I tried to re-start but it would not fire properly, only struggling on a few cylinders and then dying. Once it had died the oil light would not come on.

I rather think I might have broken it.....does anybody recognise the symptoms?

A deeply cross Dan.

After this note it will drop all the oil out of the diff, push 2 pistons through the block and the bloody glove box will come loose again.

Sorry to here that Dan

Really hope it aint what you said above how Scary would that be.
Not sure myself what it could be,but it if itaint even turning over hopefully you might have blown something electrical more than mechanical.

all the best for a speedy recovery

I think it will need to go to hospital. That doesn't sound right to me at all.

what sort of bang was it, was it a backfire sort or mecanical sort and when it was running on a few cylinders was it making any strange noises.

It was a kind of internal bang - not too loud, but not right. I was only reversing slowly at the time. given the inability to start, I rather think a new engine is called for....

Odd problem... It seems there was a loose HT lead, the engine was cold and so did not like running on less than all cylinders. My attempts to restart might have then flooded the cold engine. It was fine this morning after I had replaced the leads and once the smell of optimax had dispersed.

Thanks for the help. Seems I have been a lucky boy this time...

Dans, regularly check the HT leads. The heatshields work loose and will actually fall off the spark plus and cook on the exhaust manifold.

Glad it was a simple, inexpensive problem...makes a change doesn't it!

Good luck!

It is a good point and it is something I do, but I had not thought to look at the distributor end, and in this case the loose bonnet heat sheild looks to have knocked a lead.

I live and learn...

Cheers
