dodgy petrol gauge

My petrol gauge only works when it feels like it, which is hardly ever. Occasionally it is reading in the ball park (never accurate) but usually it reads zero. I get by using the mileometer and an educated guess at my fuel consumption. Any suggestions how i could get it fixed?

Could be a dodgy sender which is in the boot right hand side under the carpet.Put a bit off wire across it to see if your gauge reads full.
