I have a Griffith 500 ''95 which has developed a strange whining noise when starting the engine from cold. When turning the key, it sound as if there is no traction on the drive belt for a few seconds. Then the engine starts no problem. I have checked the belt, and there does not seem to be anything wrong with it. This behaviour only occurs when starting with completely cold engine - not otherwise. I cannot repeat the problem if I cold-start the engine and shut it off immediately, which makes fault-finding difficult. Any ideas on what this could be?

Soundls like the same problem i had on my old 4.0 chim. Souonds a bit like the a fanbelt slipping & goes away after about 2 mins. This only started to happen after the dealer had fitted a new poly-v belt. Maybe the tension is incorrect !
