Griff V Chimp How many sold
Discussion
Don't know the exact number (and I'd be surprised if TVR do either!) but the ratio is about 4:1 Chimp/Griff I think.
Interestingly the Griffith seems the more common of the two at TVRCC meetings. (As this is the Griffith forum I venture to suggest that this is because the Chimp owners aren't allowed out much...)

(pre-emptive strike): There are probably fewer, but only because most of them are scared off by the thought of a 5.0 litre engine...

(but then, this is the Griff forum)

Less than 6,000 chimps?
From what I've read in the motoring press evo/autocar etc, they stated figures between 10,000 - 12,000 chimps and ~ 3000 griffs?
No doubt the magazines are incorrect? Are your figures straight from TVR?
B
the figures upto 1997 were based on TVR figures. TVR don't actually know as they can't be bothered to count through their records. Since then the Cerbera took over as the most popular car followed by a reduction in the number of cars built. Add all of this together and you get the figures I have estimated which are nearer the truth than the 12000 quoted. 12000 means that TVR made on average 2000 Chimpari for 6 years. One they highest production ever was 2000 and that was shared with Griffs and Cerberas so thge magazine figures are a gross estimation.
Steve
When I last visited the factory in 1997 and both cars were in vigorous production, 7 Griffith 500/week and 22 Chimeras (all cc)/week were the figures, the balance of production output were Cerberas. Total production was just short of 2000 cars/year (and this was during a "busy time" for TVR).
I reckon Steve's figures are probably spot on!

So my November 2001 Chimaera 500 is going to be a pretty rare example of the final incarnation (faired in headlights etc) with the monster engine before they chopped the engine variant to 450 only?
Incidently, I didn't go for the Griff wheels on mine, far too aggressive looking on a curvy GT, TVR had it right first time, I let performance demonstrate what motor I've got under the bonnet (and the 500 badge on the boot!!)
