Before Your Griffith
Discussion
I had a BMW M Roadster.
I was doing approx 20k miles a year and wanted something fast and reliable that didn't need the care and attention that the Griff does (as an only car). Although it never broke down, it needed a multitude of warranty work and the BMW dealer was pretty incompetent.
When I got a job which cut my mileage enormously (I now commute by train), plus a hatchback became available, I could indulge in what I'd really wanted all along - the Griff.
Yes I know people use TVRs as their only cars - but 20k a year in a Griff would have been pushing it - not to mention the servicing and depn costs.
Part of the joy of owning it is being able to tinker with it and look after it - the BMW was a lot more 'clinical'. But it did have a real 320 bhp!!
Edited to say: It had to be the Griff because of the V8 plus I'd always hankered afer one since they were launched.
A Chimaera was a possibility, but if you want a TVR 'toy' then I think you have to go for the raw one: the Griff.
Now if I can only get the bloody wing mirror off....

I had a 350i as my first Tiv and she was a beauty, but always lusted for a Griffith. Especially after seeing/hearing one on that program that was on the box years ago that had Rick Mayall and Helena Bonham Carter in it. When she drove it along the beach front.
The bello of a Rover V8 emitting from those two Nelsons guns at the rear will always be the thing that made me fall for a TVR.
The Griffith does it soooooo well. :wowwwowwowwburbleburble:

before my Griff 500 I had a Griff 4.3
before that no sports car, I didn't have the money then so the Griff was my first; you can imagin the shock when I first drove it!
It had to be a TVR since a Ferrari or Aston (my childshood dream) was out of reach. Now I consider the Griff more beautiful and beastful than most modern Ferrari's.

The programme was called Dancing Queen, 1993. BBC drama written by Rik Mayell set in scarborough/grimsby, about a yuppie who ends up north after his stag night, with their stripper played by Helena Bonham-Carter, if my memory serves me!
You can tell i'm bored, been stuck in the Omani desert for 2 weeks waiting for equipment, at least i'm on-line!

Got deleted over 6 years ago according to Blackstar.co.uk... never mind eh? Always did have a bit of a thing for Helena Bonham-Carter...
Back to the plot - I also had an S1.5 for two years before getting my Griff. The S was a great car and I even got more for it when I sold it.
Had the Griff 500 now for 5 years and it still puts a smile on my face when I'm behind the wheel. Got the spec car I wanted - full leather and no power steering. Can't see me ever wanting to get rid of the Griff, even spent a few bob on Ohlins suspension and uprated brakes a couple of years ago. Mind you seeing the T3SCO at the motorshow made me think twice - then again noooo I'll keep the Griff thank you.

Also traded up from an S1.5. I paid £9500 for it 7 years ago and got £9000 for it as a trade in 3 years later. Have had the Griff 500 for nearly 4 years now and have covered 32000 miles including track days,Le-man twice,Zolder three times, the trip to the IOM and all the Mania's.Did a 2500 mile round trip in Europe this year travelling from Belgium to France via Germany,Switzerland and Italy.
A picture from the top of one of the mountain passes can be seen on page 36 of this months sprint. The car is also in the advert for TVR Bodyshop on page 58.
