GRIFF V CHIM...let battle commence
Discussion
I visited Christopher Neils the other day with a view to trade my Elise 160 for a Griff. The salesman reckoned I'd suit a Chim ( I suspect because he had 3 there ) rather than a Griff ( he didn't have any )... Whatever I get I'm going to use it everyday and I like the smooth Chim very much...but I prefer the looks of the Griff...are they really that different to live with...I can't quite believe they are.
Any thoughts ?

I refer the learned gentlemen to the "One word answer required" thread.

Yes, the correct answer is (a) 'he was trying to sell you what he had, not what you wanted.'
Apart from earlier models, and more engine sizes for the Chimp, it really comes down to style. The ride should be virtually the same, and a Griff boot is only small when the roof panel is stowed. (But if you want luggage space, don't buy a sports car!)
Simpo says: buy the one you like the look of most.

And D says: It'll be a Griff cos Chimaeras look crap (grabs flame proof coat and runs).
Only kidding, at the end of the day it is a personal thing, have a look at a few, have a sit in a few and make sure you see plenty of different colours.
D.
You will have noticed the rarity value of a Griff then

In a simplistic view I would suggest that once you move up the model range to beyond the S there is a natural divide at the Chim/Griff point.. afterall both cars were in production at the same time, therefore had to be signinficantly different from each other to warrant the double production.
In my mind I think Griff = pure "sportscar" Chim = V. fast GT
(however I'm sure someone will argure with me on that)
Matt.
Edited to say.. and of course the Chimaera is better looking..

'And D says: It'll be a Griff'
I knew that when I wrote it, I was just trying to be neutral. I mean, when the only alternative looks like an MG, there's no alternative...! Still, this is the Griff forum so any tea-drinking interlopers can expect some friendly flak, no?!

MikeyT said: Christ, the Tusc ONLY made no. 49? What were the top five?
Can't remember at the moment. I'll dig it out tonight and post. Lambo Miura was at number 1...
There were a few surprises (the Elise in at 20 something) however I think it was good that TVR had two models in the top 50.

Bit of a weak/stupid article if you ask me. Not much thread running through it, couldn't see how the different designers/media peep's/art critics views and opinions correlated to the rankings and to cap it off (or not) tell me this, how can any top 50 cars judged purely on the design i.e. looks NOT include the DB7 rated by most as one of the best car shapes EVER! Personally I rank it up there with the Spitfire (don't be stupid - I obviously mean the plane) and Concorde. Rich...

I also went to CN's and test drove a mk2 Elise, after lusting for one for four years. It was shite!, no power and every bump/pot hole etc was felt through the complete chassis. I was gutted.....
....Until I bought the Griff, all is now fantastic.
