I have just spotted a half incinerated plastic unconnected connector tucked in behind the alternator on my Griff serpentine. It is on the end of a thin 2 core wire that sprouts from the loom that appears from the depths and disappears down the back end of the engine. It does not appear to have sprung off anything, and all systems are working. Anything to be worried about, or just one of those TVR quirks??

BeanCaker Have your fans been rewired? The original wiring on Griffs used a plastic plug to connect to the otter switch. They are useless and usually need rewiring (due to meltdown) after about 3 years. Maybe your fans have been completely rewired leaving the old loom free. Just an idea. One way of checking is to have a look and see how many fuses connect to your fans now. If you have a fuse for each fan then you have surely been rewired sometime in the past. Angus

Funny - had an afternoon off last week & decided to try to fathom what all the bits under the bonnet were. Found, unfrazzled, possibly the same piece near the alternator. Does bugger all as far as I can tell. I reckon some bits are Rover throwbacks, not needed, like the original idle control on the chamber.

I have the same loose connector on my 96 Griff 500. I think it is for power steering or air conditioning. They probably wire the appropriate connectors into the loom regardless of whether the destination car has these accessories or not. Ian A Griff 500

I've got the same frazzled bit and I have PAS so it's not for that. Maybe A/C, but I'd suggest it was for some kid of diagnosis access.

Thanks for the replies, I'll just tape it up and hope it goes away.

My 4.3BV Griffith has a connector behind the alternator that powers the fans. I found out when I started overheating cos the connector had come lose.
