Rack has failed for the third time. It's time to change.

From those who have been down the path, is the Corsa electric mod or Subaru mod the better solution. I never liked the factory PAS, it was far too light at speed for me. From what I know the subaru mod actually makes the steering quicker, this is not great. I can weld and fabricate so either should be ok, juts looking for the best result.

I contact Lloyds developments, seemed like good guys, but it was around 3K, which is over budget.

TIA

I have done 2 Subaru conversions. The STI has a quicker rack than the standard version so there are options there.

I did one using the standard belt driven PS pump and another using electric pump from a Vauxhall. Really liked both.

Plenty threads on the Subaru conversions.

Currently have the electric column conversion with variable assistance. Bought the car with this already done and it is fine but the cost would put me off.

If you already have the engine driven pump I would suggest Subaru is the way to go.

Has anyone any knowledge of this electric power steering system ?

Microsteer by DC Electronics Motorsport Specialist ?

It's a complete kit adjustable system suitable for classic cars.

Just nervous about making the steering even lighter. I really don't like how it feels at speed.

I got an instant reply from the DC guys. It sounds good, can be speed sensitive..will need some thought on the cutting, but they've sent me some good ideas.

Works out at about a grand + VAT.

So far I have spent more than that on the rebuilds, and it keeps on failing, apparently this is an 'early' one, it really is a piece of work. Next week I'll speak with Kiley, ask them what's involved in using it with EPAS...hopefully should be easy enough.

Lasty I guess need to add an idler or use a different belt when the PAS is removed.

Pretty sure this is a system thats popular with Ultima builders as they're all non PAS as standard. Should be a fairly tried and tested product by all accounts, but may be worth asking in that forum to see how owners have got on with it.

The Subaru conversion can be a bit of a pita to do getting the various parts together and the machining work required on the rack input shaft, id personally look at the adjustable set up already mentioned.

My last griff had an electric power steering system fitted. I still have a copy of the receipt. It’s nearly 3k fitted. I would say it’s the best power steering I’ve ever used on any TVR.
It’s fully adjustable so can be as light or heavy as you want.
I had it set up with the variable speed option. Parking the griff was as easy as any modern car. At speed there was almost no assistance.
Other advantage no compressor drawing power and uses the original rack.
