Fuel pump relay - replace those old relays chaps
Discussion
This was fun. Took the griff for mot, all fine. Passed.
Went to drive off the ramp and wouldn’t start.
Turning over but not firing.
Couldnt hear the fuel pump clicking. Mot tester checked voltage and said it appeared to have volts, must be the pump?
Changed the pump, found supply hose to pump was deteriorating 🫣 so got some hose too.
Nope, no change .
Checked relays both seemed to be clicking so out with the multimeter. Pump relay was activating for the two second start sequence but no voltage on output !
Took relay apart and noticed the contacts couldn’t touch even operated manually. The coil had moved about a 1mm on the core. Pushed it back into place and now worked again. Back in car and hey presto all running again.
Can only assume it had vibrated out of position over time and eventually contacts were not making contact.
Time to get new relays 👍
No because it says not to be used on pressure lines on fuel injected systems, may be ok for tank to pump but personally id use something else.
These hoses are very good.
