curing exhaust gas in cab 4.3 - can b worse with window open
Discussion
never got around to this one - only tried blocking rear hood vents with tissues
boot lid appears to seal ok
rear qrt carpets darkened and rotted - fumes getting into boot then thru inner wings and thru the thin carpets or where?
Also heard from a TVR tuner that he could adjust mixture to prevent this, but even if that helped, not sure if that would prevent risk of excessive CO in the cab!
Where can I get preplacement rear qrt inner wing carpet panels, (ideally with gasproof backing)

I had similar in my May 92 400, like you I thought the boot seals were ok…but I noticed road dirt on the roof panel !!
After a trip to the toy shop to get a pack of plasticine, I placed strips of it along the rear boot seal and closed the lid. When I opened the lid I found that the plasticine was only touching in a couple of places, leak found!
A strip of neoprene along the underside of the lid and no more dirt or exhaust smells in the boot.
I also blocked the openings over the top of the wheel arches that lead into the cockpit just in case.
Hope this helps.
Brian.

It may be a fuel smell, you need to check the system out thoroughly as perised rubber hoses can do this.
Also check the filler hose to tank in the boot to see if it's tight
exhaust for sure - spoils the leather and resin Also check the filler hose to tank in the boot to see if it's tight
Clothes utterly stink for days afterwards so cant b good to breathe
Not keen on modding boot underneath - havent looked at problem yet, but would it be practical to seal up inner wings / sills from boot - First by stuffing old pullovers wrapped in plastic bin liner to experiment?
I noticed my rear qrt side carpets became discoloured from cream to black and that the original plastic backing was torn back - fume barrier?
I have no speakers into boot and unaware of any floor holes in my J reg
It is one of the jobs on the list that must be addressed, as it must be potentially dangerous in making you drowsy at best - carbon monoxide is not a good thing
I think it was Dom from TVR power who said it was unburnt fuel / mixture that he could tune out - anyone else heard this?
Inflatable boot seal (cycle inner tube principle?) / foam
I didn’t do the floor mod just blocked the arch gaps and closed the seal gaps, also I didn’t seal off the rear cockpit vents under the roof. I only have the roof up when it’s raining but haven’t had problems since doing this.
I did start too have a minor fume problem but found that the exhaust manifold gaskets were leaking. So I replaced them and cured that problem.

I honestly can’t remember what I used over the arches, it was ten years ago! Possibly some form of sheet material that I cut to fit and stuck in with silicon sealant
