Gearbox Mystery

During stripping the chassis of my 1995 Griffith 500 prior to a body off I am puzzled by a sensor on the T5 gearbox.

Being a T5 box the speedometer sensor is located on the diff shaft but there is also a second sensor on the T5 box iteself that appears to be connected to the loom.

Can anyone explain this as I thought that only the earlier LR box had a speedo sensor..

It's not just the sensor for reverse gear for the rear lamp is it?
