I have a very very slow dripping of hydraulic fluid under my clutch pedal. I think a seal has gone on the master cylinder. Has anyone had the same problem and fitted a new seal. How much of a job is it.

I have also just noticed a small patch of what looks like oil on my rubber mat - bugger. Time to get my head in the footwell!

Hi I had the same thing on my Griff and Peninsula repaired it under my Sprint Warranty - i think the cost was around the £120 mark but I can't really remember. Give Richard a call on 01884 35341 - he should remember me and can tell you/supply what bits you need if you fancy a DIY stab at it. hope this helps Marco

Yep, been there, been dripped on, and changed the seals. The seal kit is a standard Girling part. You need to know the bore diameter of the clutch master cylinder to order the right kit. The size (in fractions of an inch) is cast into one side of the body. Getting it out is not all that easy due to the location (inside the footwell and above the pedal, take off the inspection cover under the bonnet too!). Rebuiding the unit is quite easy if you're careful, patient and keep all the parts clean. There are instructions in the kit, you just take it apart, clean it with fresh brake fluid, and reassemle with the new parts provided.

Had the same problem with my chim. I just bought a new master cylinder. £35 from david gerald. You will have hasstle getting it off/on though. I cant see you managing it on your own. I had to make a tool with an old box spanner and a bit of threaded rod. Apparently you can do it with a bent spanner :/ Make sure you keep the plastic sleeve on the pipe cause if it touches the side, where it goes through the bulkhead, the vibration can saw it in half. If you see what I mean :/

I ordered the kit from a brake and clutch specialist (mainly classic car stuff). They had it off-the-shelf, and it only cost a couple of quid by mail order. I'll dig out the number if I can find it! Getting it off the car and refitting it was the hard bit, the rebuilding was easy!

Couldn't find the receipt for the bits I ordered. The amount of money involved was fairly insignificant, so I probably just binned it!

I had the same promblem with my 1992 4.0lt Griffith. The clutch master cylinder is a Girling part No. 64066117. TVR's part number is Q0012. I found that Henley Heritage where cheaper than my local parts factors. Henley's price was £47.92 last year. I'm not sure if the master cylinder change on a 500. I managed to change it by myself, but if you could get someone else to stop the bolts turning in the engine bay whilst you undo the nuts in the pedal box area it makes it a lot easier.
