Me thinks my Griffith diff is on its way out.
Got a little whine when I set out but it shuts up after a short while.
Took my Mrs out in the Griffith to a pub in deepest Kent down a very twisty hill. Near 180 degree corners and had a couple of clicks.
Had a look on Quaiffs website and there seems there's 3 options.
No idea what to look at.
No idea if simply draining the fluid and filling it with the proper 80w140 fully synthetic oil can help.
Worst case? Seems there's a tiny fluid weep from the drain plug. No idea how long it's been doing it.
Haven't seen any puddles under the car at all.
No idea how to approach the issue.

Change the oil first if there is no idea when it was last done.
Use a good quality oil.
Drive a bit faster so you don't hear it!

clicks turning corners highly likely to be cv joints in need of replacement

agree with changing the diff oil, a highly recommended BTR diff oil would be Lodexol 75W-90

hope it's of some help

I believe this was recommended originally.
Just double check before purchasing, there are lots of old topics on it.

What year is it? Ignore diff noises at your peril they are not cheap if you allow them to break , you had warnings previously have you checked the level or oil quality yet?

My car is a 1995 N reg 500hc.

I've now owned the car for 3 weeks!
It was only last night I noticed the slight whine when cold and the rare click.
I'm not ignoring it!!!!!
I don't ignore odd noises on any car I own.

I assume mines an M76.
I'll check the oil level and swap it out for some new good stuff anyway.
If it doesn't respond to a fluid change what diff should I go for?

why would turning corners in a rear wheel drive car possibly cause clicks in worn CV joints- the CV angle doesn't change whilst cornering like it would in front wheel drive?

Glad to see it's not just me that thought that.
Diff in mild lock up yes, front CV joints, not likely.

Lol. No arsey taken.
Can't crack on as fast as I'd like to because 80w140 fully synthetic gear oil seems to not be freely available on every street corner.
TVR handbook states Mobil stuff.
Searched for that and it's rare and heap big costly!
Found a good alternative last night and it's winging it's way to me.
Handbook says 2 litres. Be interesting to see how much comes out. I'll also ensure the drain plug has a new copper washer seal.

Make sure you can undo the filler plug, before you remove the drain.
