Griff Wing Mirror
Discussion
I really enjoyed my first trip to Le Mans Classic.
Not so much someone looking at the half hood protection to see how is was held on and braking my wing mirror.
Noticed it was in the wrong position, so moved it back and instead of the 2 clicks (in and Out), it just slowly drops during driving.
I am assuming that this is a door card removal and trying to reach the inside door bolt without taking the skin off my arms?
Planned for this Saturday/Sunday so any help appreciated.

Could just be the thing that screws into the door come loose or the bit that clamps onto the bit that screws into the door come loose?
Common issue, search old posts

It will be if you need to take it completely off. Yes, you can have a good look after removing the glass, but the grub screw holding the collar on is in the recess in the door. It's fitted as a complete unit and will have to be removed the same way if that's what's required. And you'll need to de-pin the plugs in the door I expect. Unless you just cut through the wires and inline splice them back together afterwards.
On the upside, I find the door panel easier to remove on a Griff than it was on my Chimaeras.

I have managed to snap o/s door mirror toadstool required problem no stock trying to repair ,someone did a repair kit alloy threaded direct replacement into door slightly taller allowing easy access to grub screw , long term are vw mirrors replacement no modifications to bodywork required just painted 5k plus hence reluctant to alter , or second hand any help appreciated

Well if you have to go further there is no need to remove the door card, remove speaker if need be and unplug wires to mirror. On the upside, I find the door panel easier to remove on a Griff than it was on my Chimaeras.
Your mirror in that state is easy to access the grub screw and lift off .

£5k to swap the Citroen mirrors for VAG ones? Where did that price come from? You can pick up a set of mirrors for around £65 off the evilbay of fleas. Plus £25 for new blue tint, heated, convex / blind spot mirrors. Modify the VAG base to fit the Grief door hole £200 at a local fabricator who saw you coming. Two new weatherproof electric connectors and pins £10. Paint £500 at a local sprayer who saw you coming. A day to fit.
Well, having had to remove the CX type mirror on 2 x TVRs, I couldn't access anything properly, especially the connectors, without taking the whole door card off.
The speaker out is of course the first thing but the grub screw is in the recess and CANNOT be accessed without removing the whole lot. If the nut in the boss is very tight it'll need 'persuading' loose too.

For reference, saw someone else had done it, so when I last took the door cards off, I replaced the bolts with WingNuts. Bought a large selection from Amazon. These make taking the door cards etc off SOooooo much easier.

If the OP cannot access the grub screw with the state of his mirror I would be most surprised. The speaker out is of course the first thing but the grub screw is in the recess and CANNOT be accessed without removing the whole lot. As stated previously, take off the mirror glass and screw access is now available to the frame allowing removal of the painted rear cover and to the guts where he can see more of what’s what. He doesn’t need to get to the grub screw to get this far anyway.

Ever taken a mirror completely off the car? There's several thread on it. In 2020, Adrian@ ended up drilling a hole in the door to get at it:As stated previously, take off the mirror glass and screw access is now available to the frame allowing removal of the painted rear cover and to the guts where he can see more of what’s what. ETA: There's a 12 page thread here, with heavy coverage of the kit that was made up and used by many owners so that the shroud is above the door like on Astons and Lotus :

A Chimaera thread but same mirrors covering de-pinning the socket and a repair kit that Racing Green used to do, not sure if available now
