New wheels but have some tyre questions
Discussion
Evening All
FIrst post after recently purchased a Griff 500 after selling my Chimaera 21yrs (the itch never faded)
first of all apologies for bringing up a well-covered topic, but just wanted to get some feedback on tyre sizes
I've purchased a set of SP12's 17x7 et25 front and 18x8 et35 rear
What is the best tyre choice to avoid wheel arch rub? I've honed it down to two options compared to the original:
would I get away with the 225/45/17 and 245/40/18, albeit a larger diameter by about 20mm?
Front ------------------------------------------------Rear
Size---------- Diameter--------Circum-------- Size--------Diameter --------Circum
225-50-15 --- 606 --- --------1903.8 --- -----245-45-16 --- 626.9 --- ------1969.5
225-45-17 --- 634.3--- --------1992.7 --- ----245-40-18 ---- 653.2 --- ------2052.1
or
215-40-17 --- 603.8--- --------1896.9 --- ----245-35-18 ---- 628.7 --- ------1975.1
Who's running a similar setup and what tyres?
Thanks in advance

I bought my Griff in 2021 with the SP12s already fitted. The fronts are 215/40 x 17 and the rears 245/35 x 18. An alternative for the rear would be 235/40 x 18 perhaps but they are 8" wide so best to take full advantage I think.
I note that the SP12s no longer seem to be available (from ACT anyway), and in the 2 years since I bought mine via a PH classifieds, I've never seen another car advertised for sale with them fitted, whether on PH, at Amore or on A/Trader!

Thanks for that, really helpful. It’s such a mine field.I note that the SP12s no longer seem to be available (from ACT anyway), and in the 2 years since I bought mine via a PH classifieds, I've never seen another car advertised for sale with them fitted, whether on PH, at Amore or on A/Trader!
I’ll keep the Estorils as well for special occasions.
I'm planning on getting a set of wheels for my Griffith.
I've decided to go 16x7 with 215/45/16 tyres on the front and 17x7.5 on the rear with 245/40/17 tyres.
Bigger that the standard Estoril's.
Reason.....
More traction etc than standard, look nicer and keep as much comfort due to still having some sidewall at 40 or 45 profile.
Experience says an 18" wheel with a 35 profile will be screaming for easy pothole damage or easy wheel bend along with ride comfort.
That's just my opinion. It's your car, fit what you want.

I found this site helpful when looking at wheels and tyres as it will show how your future setup compares with current
