Hoping some kind soul can help me here: Just spent the afternoon fitting a chin spoiler to my Griff 500 (it didn''t have one when I bought it) and while I was fiddling around I noticed a stray electrical lead dangling about six inches from my alarm unit in the front n/s wing. Seems my alarm isn''t wired up to anything then. The lead goes through a circular rubber thingy about 5cm diameter and ends in a clip-on connector. Does anyone know where this should be connected? Help very much appreciated! NB: Engine seems to run about 5-10 deg cooler with the chin spoiler fitted!

I'm pretty sure I found a spare lead in the nose of my chim when I fitted a new rad. They can be found all over the place. If everything is working ok then I shouldn't worry.

Could it be for the bonnet pin?

Er, what's a bonnet pin? Thanks for the response guys. I'm not sure if the alarm is working at all, I've certainly never heard it in action.

HI, Where did you get your spoiler, how much and was it easy to fit?

likely to be the useless ice detector than makes a light glow red for ever - has anyone ever replaced it?

Sounds like the ice detector wire to me. No, mine has never worked - I might replace it one day ... but then I drive carefully in the cold weather anyway. Maybe I should just disconnect the red light on the dash that tells me its icey. T/.

It earths when the bonnet is opened so triggering the alarm.

Had the same on my 96 Griff. I visited TVR Centre in Barnet Nth London and they explained to me that because the klaxon for the alarm is fitted in the wheel arch well it collects a lot of water and last no more than a coupld of years at best. So they regularly see cars with it disconnected to prevent noisy wake-up calls. Is the spare wire offside or nearside? Most pre96/7 Griffs have the klaxon on the nearside (not sure what happened after that). Angus

Tilling, Got the spoiler from TVR Power in Coventry (any dealer should have them). Cost about £16 - cheapest spare part for a Tiv. Fitting not too difficult. The original is riveted so you can see where the holes are under the nose. Mine had two sets of holes so obviously had at least two spoilers ripped off in the past. I tried filling the best looking holes with a view to using them for some new scews, but then (after getting into a mess with bits of filler up my nose, etc) decided to simply drill new holes. Took about 15 mins and I felt a real mechanical hero afterwards!

I guess my main concern over the alarm is if some insurance company inspector uses it as a way of wriggling out of payment in the event of a claim.
