While driving to and from VW's yesterday my legs were bloody freezing! I appear to be getting a lot of wind coming through the bulkhead and pedals. Anybody had this problem and is there a particular place I should look to block up before I have to purchase some thermals?

Cheers!

Got the same problem with my Chimaera.I have felt underneath the dash and the vent appears to be putting out hot air.The heater is great but it is just cold from the Knees downwards!

try looking half way down the footwell on the r/h/s.
there is a fresh air vent, with blower for keeping you cool from the normal heatsoak. they may have opened it during servicing. when open the cold air will blow through at roughly half the car speed even with the fan off!
to close, rotate the knob..oo er mrs..in the centre.

the fan switch is on lower edge of instrument housing on r/h/s of steering column.

if thats ok its probably the door seal at the front, by your knee. iffy at the best of times.

Get you head down under the steering wheel and look up near where the column comes through the bulkhead. I found a neat circular hole about an inch in diameter above it, and covered it with an equally neat circle of gaffer tape - 95% of the draught has gone. There's still a small amount leaking through from the top left, but didn't investigate further.

The 4.0 never did it though...

I think this is the 'extra' vent on middle age Griffs. Mine has a louvred vent on the left hand side of the footwell.

Yer I have the fan and have checked it and it is closed. The front of the door seal does let the cold in but nothing like whats coming in through the bottom of the footwell?

If you can't find the problem, you can counter it by removing the clutch fluid cover in the engine compartment... I drove mine for a few miles in this condition (to get the sealant to refix it) and got roasted by hot air coming back from the engine - two wrongs could make a right??!!

A bit late on this thread but,

I have the same problem though only at speeds over about 60mph, I’ve checked everywhere and cant find where it’s coming from (Its not the upper heater vent this is working fine as I have this on to counter act the cooling effect) my only guess is a either the door seal or the recalculation / external air vent.

Regarding this vent when I twiddle my knob (steady) I don’t hear a sound (unlike the others the motors can clearly be heard) is this normal ? where is the vent switching ? and where is the fresh air intake.

Cheers,

Simon.

Could it be the air vent in the footwell, but the pipe is detached and pushing the air through?

I had this in my dash and it took be a while to work out why no air came out of the driver side vent. The answer for me was simple, the pipe had popped of the back of the vent.

It is poossible it is a similar thing.
