Does anyone know if the tyres can be changed using conventional tyre changing machines on OZ Split Rims?
My wheels are totally leak free and in excellent condition so I don't want to split the rims for fitting new tyres.
Also I am looking at Uniroyal Rainsport 5 205/50 R15 86V for the front and 225/50 R16 92Y for the back. I would really appreciate any comments regarding these tyres. The V rating for the front tyres is a bit unfortunate but I am hoping the insurance company will accept a lower speed rating considering, as far as I know , a Y rated tyre in this size is not available.

The tyres can be fitted as per any road wheel. Just find a tyre fitter with a modern m/c.

I've got those tyres on my 500 and they're fine for road use.

Voso I am looking for tyres for my pre-cat 4.3 and came on here intending to post to ask for recommendations and saw your thread. I'm replacing Toyo T1Rs but have the impression they're no longer available. I've seen people mentioning the Uniroyal Rainsports and was going to go that route in the absence of other options. One question - are you going for 50s on the front? My car's Toyo's are 55s and was intending to go with that again, and 50s on the back (225 16s) and wondered if for any reason 50s are preferred on the front with the Uniroyal. Also, I'm looking for the best (cheapest!) supplier - where are you getting yours?

Hello Kitwa.
The Griffith tyres are an absolute minefield. You, probably like me, want a good tyre, same make and tread pattern front and rear with the correct speed rating ie 'Y' rated to 186MPH the Uniroyal 205/50 15 86V are only rated to 149MPH. We both know that V tyres would be good enough for the road but my insurance company will not accept V rated tyres. I Live in Ireland and due to the cost in road tax here €1800 / year I have declared the car of the road since 2011. It is now 30 years old in September and road tax is then €56/year. So that is why I need to replace the now hard Bridgestones that are currently fitted--so that I can start using it again! the tyres stated in the handbook states Front 215/50ZR and for the back 225/50 ZR. ZR is the now superseded rating. My car when I bought it in 1996 had 215/50 ZR front and 235/50 ZR rear. I cannot find replacement Bridgestones anywhere. The reason for me choosing Uniroyals is that other Griff owners have fitted them and seem to be pleased. I have tried to match the sidewall height as closely as possible so as not to upset the speedo reading, ground clearance, steering caster etc. At the moment I do not have any idea what tyres I will fit that are the same make and tread pattern F & R. If you go the route of different makes of tyres F&R you will find a few makes on the various websites like Vredestein (horrendous price and Acelera- totally unknown!) I have to do something but what I don't know!!! Please keep in touch via this website. We Griff owners need to find a solution!
Best regards
Vince.

Thanks Vince, it seems to have become quite a complicated business. Not sure yet what I'll do but I'll be in touch once I've decided/done something. The tyres still have a bit of life left in them but I ought to get new ones soon to do justice to this great car! Roll on September for you and happy pre-cat motoring! cheers, Andy

I have a 430 precat and need new tyres. Have done a fair bit of research and have settled for Yokohama Advan Fleva. They are available in the correct size for front and back but you have to mail order from abroad the rears. I can’t say what they will be like but can’t be any worse than the old Toyos that are on there.

Hello Scottliv.
I cannot find out much about Yokohama Advan Fleva. What is the exact size and speed rating of both front and rear that you have found?
Lastly where did you get them?
Best regards
Vince.
