Blimey, a wealth of information here (and the rest!). Steadily reading through the posts, and I have got back to June so far - I don't think I want to know how much further I have to go

Anyway, thinking about getting my first TVR. It's going to be a Chimaera 4.0 but at 24 years old and living in London insurance is going to be the issue more than finding a car. I just don't fancy the bog standard 'Sport' editions of the 306/206/Civic/BMW route friends have gone down and think I have found the answer that is right for me in a TVR. Got plenty of time to research before I go ahead and take the plunge but I really wanted to know if the "Chimaera and Griffith" book (spiral) is still in print, as I reckon this is the second place to start reading - after here of course

I am sure I will still have questions later, but the first one at the moment is - Is it better to buy a car in winter or summer. I assume prices are lower in winter but I guess it's easier to give the car a full test drive & inspection in the summer months. Just seen a few posts about the summer/winter thing with no real idea why.

Anyway, many thanks for the information in the forum & all photos, although all it has really done is make me want one even more !

The book is out of print pending a new edition for the end of the year. Watch this space.

Steve, new book not available until New Year? - I've put it on my Xmas list - so what can Santa do now?

Christmas IS at the end of the year - Steve said end of the year, not next year

Failing that you could always get it on pre-sale!

I'm sure that if you are a hurry someone can lend you one (I would, but another buyer is borrowing mine at the moment).

Post something on this site and you may find someone.

the book is excellent, and I am sure that Steve would rather someone reads someone else's book in the absence of new ones being available.

My second hand chimaera was bought in december and I picked it up on christmas eve. the prices are certainly better, and dealers are always prepared to do a deal as Christmas approaches.

Thanks for the answers, there are a couple of friends of friends (TVR owners) who I will speak to first, hopefully I will unearth an expert. If not the I might ask for loan of the book from a kind individual until I can pick one up

Hi DMA,
just a thought for you.
I was in your position last year and was considering when the best time was to buy. I reckoned that around February would be ideal time as prices low but not too long to wait for Summer to come back. Started looking in January, then seriously in Feb. but didn't manage to find the 'right' car until July! I had decided not to buy from a dealer which narrowed the availables slightly. So advice is.... start looking early!

Hey DMA -
I took the plunge this year too - fantastic 4.3 Chim - awesome car and completely different league to the sport BM's etc as you say. - I've got a copy of the Steve Heath book (and live/work in central london) so you could have a loan if you like. Also, I used the services of Rob Ingelby when acquiring mine and I'm sure it was worth every penny (fixed fee until success, basically) - www.findasportscar.co.uk - he's a top bloke too!

Thanks for the offer, however I am going to take my time over this, so will hope to catch one of the new run of books on the next month or so. Excellent link there as well, I think I would feel 'safer' have a pro at hand when looking to buy so thanks there as well!
