Upper diff mount
Discussion
Just a heads up incase anyone else might have a similar problem with a clunking noise from the diff area, after my body off Chassis refurb a year ago I’ve began to notice a non metallic clunk from the diff area in a throttle on off situation. With the car in gear and rocked back and forth I could easily induce the noise, I initially thought that perhaps the bolts were loose or maybe the hole in the bush (Orange Poly type) was too big for the bolt but everything was fine. I could see that the inner sleeve was protruding out from the Poly bush so I machined 1.5mm. of it which would then allow the bolt to clamp the whole assembly. Upon rocking back and forth the noise had stopped and a test drive confirmed this.
Thinking about it I guess it depends on how enthusiastic you clean out the bush sleeve, I used a flapper wheel to clean out all the paint as the bushes can be difficult to fit....this would also mean that the bush would not be clamped/compressed the same due to the inner sleeve protruding to far.
Hope this might be of some help if there is anyone else with a similar problem.
