Subjective question I know as clearly individual history and condition will determine the value of rarer wedges such as the SEAC's over basic age and mileage but....

..there must come a point where a watershed occurs and people just arent interested. I dont really want to pick out individual cars but the A 5EAC car is a good example, as is Stig's 460SE. Is the SEAC really worth £5-6000 more? What would you guys pay for a SEAC?

Someone was comparing a top end wedge with a bottom end Griff but tbh you can get a bloody good Griffith for SEAC money it seems, not just ropey ones.

Also, and totally unrelated I might add what are the best all weather covers for wedges? I have no garage at the moment and dont want that to be the reason I dont get one.

I think after being for sale for nearly 2 years, A 5EAC is finally getting into the appropriate price range. It started at 20,000. Mid teens for an immaculate car I feel is appropriate. 15ish and I would have purchased it.

The SEAC and the griffith are very different with probably very different people buying them, if you compare them price for price the SEAC seems very expensive ie average late 80's SEAC the same price as a 95 Griff 500 ! remember the SEAC was bloody expensive when new the last ones where over £45,000 !! over 10 yrs ago, all cars a price sensitive though and it seems that sometimes cars stay on the market too long in many cases just asking 10% too much, which is helpful to other sellers. i recon as a very rough guide to the value of the rarer wedges prices for them are 390SE £7K 400SE £9-10K 450SE 11-12K SEACS 13-15K ?

Yeah its difficult to judge. I didn't mean to imply that A 5EAC was overpriced btw, although £20k is silly money it has to be said.

I guess alot of the reasons for that are in Stig's thread. The thought of a wedge appeals to me purely to be different. There are only a couple of thousand working Griffs left so they are hardly commonplace and they do look nicer in many ways but an immaculate BIG wedge exites me!

Any ideas on the all weather cover?

I was talking about this very subject with a band of well know reprobates while mine was off-the-road

They patiently explained to me that SEAC reqires a very special customer and a SEAC could easily sit on their forecourt for ages without a bite.

The very same mob took a SEAC in part-X soon after that conversation and sold it two days later

It happens....

If you want a SEAC, you buy it! (I did...)

I think your price quotes for the 390SE to 450 SEAC are pretty much on the money. Again, it is a particular buyer looking for the wedge, and at the end of the day, it is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. I predict that the big wedges will be quite sought after 10 to 20 years from now. I'm glad I got mine before most of them are destroyed or the market dries up.

I'm a wedgehead too, but currently TVR-less. I would certainly buy Stig's 460SE if I had the readies at this time, but would like the ultimate (a SEAC). I should be in the market for one around the middle of next year and will look at prices then. To me Stig's car looks very good value because of all the enhancements, not 'in spite of'. My ultimate wedge would be a SEAC with uprated breathing, enough to produce a genuine 300bhp, with adjustable suspension, uprated brakes, with full harness and a roll cage (or at least a back hoop). I will be using the car on the road two or three times a week plus maybe ten track days a year (Hungaroring).

If your intending to track day I would count Stigs out if I were you. 119db will get you thrown off every circuit in Europe apart from some TVR airstrip runs

The SEAC is truly one to cherish I agree but being such a rarity you could wait 2 days or 2 years to buy/sell one. Is the prestige/rarity worth a premium over a car like Stig's though? Not sure...

Errr... ever heard of silencer inserts? To be fair, MOST wedges will struggle to get on trackdays even with standard exhausts.

You have to weigh up how much driving you'll do on the road (setting off alarms/scaring OAPs and children etc.) and running on the track.

If anyone wants a ride through a tunnel in my wedge on full bore - they'll see why you HAVE to have them

I have, of course, heard of silencer inserts dear chap. It wasn't a criticism. More noise the better as far as I am concerned
