removing front lower ball joint, what am i doing wrong
Discussion
Help please gents,
so I need to replace my front lower ball joints as they have split, I've managed to get all the nuts undone and off, but the wish bones just wont separate , I've even unbolted the shock to lower the bottom wishbone, but still wont move, I've also undone the anti role bar as it also needs replacing.
Still no joy.
any ideas welcome

The shaft of the ball joint is tapered, so it will need 'shocking' to free it. If it won't shift with a sharp tap on the end of the pin (refit the nut a few turns to protect the thread if you intend to reuse it).
Ideally, you would have a 'ball joint spltter' like this, if you can get them in, they never fail.
Alternatively, you could try whacking the side of the casting adjacent to where the pin passes through, ideally whilst holding an even larger hammer against the opposite side like this
It helps if you can simultaneously exert a little force on the end of the pin too.

I find one of these 100% successful, however they do destroy the rubbers of the ball-joint so if you are not planning to replace the ball-joint then use the other methodsIdeally, you would have a 'ball joint spltter' like this, if you can get them in, they never fail.
