The small oil leak on Diff(cooling fin type) was put down to pinion oil seal by local dealer, who replaced it in 2 hours?
Looks under car after long run to see drops of oily condensate on floor (small amount), still.
Question for Shpub or anyone else?
Would it only take a couple hours to change oil seal by dealer or have been conned?
If so, can water oil be down to breather pipe mentioned in book.
Advice sort
Thanks

If it's any help, my diff's been leaving drops of oil on the garage floor for the best part of 3 years now. Advice from Peninsula is "they all do that - just keep the levels checked regularly". Car still seems to drive right and do all the "limited slip" stuff when you get a bit enthusiastic off the mark ? Maybe just leave it ?

My Griff did it for nearly 3 years with no ill side effects, other than a spotty garage floor, and my Chim does it now. As said "I guess they all do that sir."

Mine doesn't do it. Never has.

Also, the diff wasn't designed to leak.

If it was mine I'd have it fixed.

Mine does it too – few drops on the garage floor but from the GEARBOX not DIFF, when I get home after a nice (fast) ride. The car (Griffith 500 Oct/98) runs perfectly.

Is that from the front of the gearbox by the bellhousing? If so it is more likely to be a Crank oil seal and need garage attention...

easy to differentiate between the two oils (engine & gearbox) as the gearbox oil is red in colour.

if you can get access to a garage pit, it only takes a few mins to nip up the bolts around the sump as they do tend to come loose with vibration, the gasket will need replacing if the leak persists.

Hi guys, it’s definitely from the gearbox (red drops), I will have the garage check the seals. Thanks.
