Anyone used theirs? How did you carry the punctured wheel? I am thinking of leaving the spacesaver at home and relying on a couple of cans of puncture repair stuff and an electric pump, any thoughts? I haven't had a flat in 17 years of ownership but am I risking fate? cheers, John.

I junked my spare a couple of years ago and carry the spray and pump kit. Much more room in the boot.

Hi John
Hope that all is well. I take it that you will be on the Rusty again this year, we won't be .... again, too late for booking, but next year will be better planned by us.
Have you also considered one of these puncture repair kits kits, I bought one, hoping that someone else might benefit from it (rather than us).
Also cheap as chips.

The foam is all well and good for a nail or screw. But if you have a blowout or large hole, useless.

As said, punctures are rare and that's what breakdown cover is for. Be careful with some of the cheaper companies though, they insist you MUST have a spare.

I'd advise carrying a spare tyre instead if you have aftermarket wheels with exotic tyre sizes, because breakdown will only go to the nearest fitter and they may not have stock; many tyre fitters do just in time stock control and will have it for you 'tomorrow.' frown

Auisse John, as previous post definitely carry a spare breakdown cover, I work in tyre industry unless the tyre puncture is small yes a can of sealant might get you home any sidewall damage, rim indentation, cuts no chance it's sods laws when you do get a puncture middle of night miles from anywhere I would like the piece of mind I could get home. after all its a sport car so space is limited unless you have a chimp

My one puncture in the Griff was en-route to a paid for TVR event the tyre foam was useless resulting in RAC attendance. They had a tyre repair system which was good enough to get me to a local hotel, and also finally off the hard shoulder, they would not warranty the repair would get me 100 odd miles home, being a Sunday no tyre places were open and I had to order one Monday and await it finally arriving late afternoon. So having missed the event, spent a night in an Hotel, bought a tyre at a higher cost than I could have we finally returned home over 24 hours later than anticipated. I then bought and now carry on long journeys a space saver.

My sole puncture in the Griff was a screw in a rear tyre. A breakdown service used the 'foam in a can repair' to get me to a tyre supplier some 30 miles distant. The tyre had to be scrapped as it had been filled with foam but could have been satisfactorily repaired had the foam not been used. The tyre was scrapped after only 1k miles. A skinny spare would've been very much cheaper.

Also, as others have said previously, what are you going to do if you get a blowout at speed and the tyre cannot be reinflated with the can of foam ......?

Bring back the spare wheel and jacking kit.
