Hi there, i am looking for some new 5 3/4” lamp-units, preferable LED ones with a halo, or other DRL function.

Does any of you have a suggestion on what to buy?

For the low beam, i plan to have 7” lamp-units, also LED. Did any of you use LED for those and have experience with how those ”behave” behind the plexiglass screens on the fenders?

thanks in advance.

Hello, I’ve just fitted these to my 5 3/4 units. They are really bright now but I’ll need to check the alignment next. They might actually be too bright!! I needed to file the metal plate to allow the H4 units to fit but they got well now.

Those won’t pass an mot now, the light colour is an instant give away. The op’s plan of a new headlight unit is the best route.

Interesting, do you know what colour temp is acceptable now?

Its not the colour temperature that is important but the beam pattern. As said above the colour temperature is an indication to the tester that LEDs are fitted. If the whole lighting unit is not LED compatible than as said its a fail.
I recently fitted LED headlights just before the MOT regs changed, my friendly tester said provided they did not cause undue glare to oncoming vehicles he would pass them. Not wanting to put the tester in a compromised position I changed back to incandescent before the MOT. If I decide to change them back to LEDS then its my problem not the testers.

It's on a Chimaera but... I've bought a set of Morimoto bi-led plus pivot halos and will be sticking these behind MK3 shrouds. My set up will require a 3d printed mounting bracket to fill the gap between the lense and the pod. It's far from a cheap option though. I have a cardboard mock up...

As mentioned, it’s now an mot fail to fit either led or discharge bulbs to a headlight designed for halogen. Instant fail, pointers will be not just beam pattern but colour temp and the instant nature of led. Rules are getting tighter as too many produce spurious light that blinds oncoming traffic.
