Light Button removal without removal of dash panel?
Discussion
Hi, the simple answer is No. The switches are mounted in a metal bracket which is fixed by studs that are 'stuck' onto the metal dash panel, you also have the wiring loom and connections to contend with. I have stripped out, rebuilt and installed many Griff Dashboards and know what you want to do is definitely a dash out job. You will not ned to fully disconnect everything.
1. Remove Steering Wheel
2. Remove steering column retaining bolts and carefully lower column
3. remove the two self tappers from the dash either side of the column area
4. remove radio/cd head unit
5. put hand inside and find the top L/H side dash mounting (probably and M5 nut (I use wing nuts on my re-engineered dashboards), undo and remove
6. remove air vents
7. lay a towel or blanket over the centre console/gear knob area (just in case)
8. carefully ease out the dashboard, being careful not to damage any of the leather on the surround
9. using another towel or blanket lay the dash onto it as far as it will go without removing the loom plugs
10. locate the switch and remove the M5 nuts holding the switch bracket in place
11. I.D. each wire coming from the switch you need to remove (masking tape is good for this), each terminal has a small number moulded into the plastic of the base.
12. you now need to compress the retaining tabs of the switch to remove it (I make a small tool out of imperial aluminium tube that has a 1" internal diameter, this goes over the tabs and facilitates easy removal).
13. carry out whatever repair or just replace the switch (available from Racetech)
14. reverse all the above to refit back into Griff
Hope that's of help? Regards, Pete

The easiest way to remove the steering wheel is to remove the six setscrews that hold it to the boss. Removing the entire wheel and boss is not easy without special tools.
Hi Hedgehopper, that's exactly what I meant, I took it that people would do this. Thanks for clarifying. Only remove the 6 socket head screws, removing the horn button prior to that of course, leaving the boss in place.Regards, Pete

Thank you everyone for the reply, dash out it will be then..
If you get the dash out, as in that last picture, check the line of warning lights. TVR used a warning lamp with a non replaceable bulb so if one blows you need to replace the whole lamp which means dash out again and remove the sub-dash that mounts the lamps.Whilst you have the dash out replace all those lamps with the type you can change the bulb. I think in some cases you can reach to change the bulb without taking the dash out again.
