idea

What do you guys without an overflow/expansion bottle for the coolant think about using one of these with a long dangly pipe for the excess to escape, (I'm assuming that's how it works) rather than it making a mess down the swirl pot and nearby areas which happens if too much coolant is added to the system. Yes I know once the level is correct it don't do it again. Once it has found it's level the plain cap could be refitted.

.

My Griff has probably been fitted with a replacement swirl pot with a stub for a pipe to an overflow tank like later cars, but I don't want to make use of it because once burped out the excess it's fine.

You get used to where the water level needs to be. Mine is just touching my big finger when I poke it in the tank. Mine has only overflowed once, before I learned of to fill it above big finger level.
