What I did was get a 1/4 ratchet with the appropriate size socket on it. Then tie wrapped it to the master cylinder bowl (or get someone to hold it). Then in the footwell undo and remove the nut. The master cylinder can then be withdrawn once the rod on the pedal has been unclipped. Similar exercise for replacement but get the bottom bolt in place at the same time as the master cylinder
